To Be Glamorous

What makes a woman glamorous? Is it they way she walks into a room with outstanding self-confidence and assurance in herself, or while volunteering in the food serving line at her local shelter, she has a sparkling smile and a glow about her that warms your heart, is it impeccable makeup, flawless skin and luxurious hair? Is it a smoking hot pair of Louboutin's that make her legs stretch for miles and drop jaws in seconds when she walks by? Maybe it's her meticulously put together wardrobe that doesn't wear her but instead, empowers her to express her true inner spirit and artistry.

Is she glamorous because she wears Chanel sunglasses and lunches at the Ivy and shops on Rodeo drive with her Pomeranian in her purse while sipping a chai late? Or that she loves to hit the local thrift shops, clip coupons and wait for a last call sale to stack her dolla bills. Does she work in the fields and get dirt in her nails and sweat on her brow, but hold her head high and pray on her knees and care for her babies like they were heirs to the throne of greatness? Does she work on Wall street, have an executive assistant, 2 blackberry's, 3 laptops, a driver, a maid, a nanny, a personal shopper and still go every weekend without fail to see her 80 year old granny and spend quality time with her and the children?

Or is glamour an elegance and ladylike quality in a woman who dreams big, studies hard, works overtime, goes the extra mile, deeply cares, wears her heart on her sleeve, lifts and praises other women genuinely, prays without ceasing, walks the combat field, protects our streets, is a movie star, a teacher, a mother, a wife, a sister, a daughter and waits on tables at Denny's all the while wearing pink painted nails, lace panties, strawberry lip-gloss, coconut lotion and YSL perfume. She brilliantly holds her own in conversations and is a worthy opponent on issues dear to her heart. She holds true to her beliefs and morals and she stands for respect and dignity, her poise is admirable, and she always has God on her speed dial, she is determined, un-swerving and relentless in her pursuit. She is quick to be-friend other women without prejudice and she speaks confidence, love and support to them. Glamour is in the details. Keep it glam.

To all my glamazons, hope you all have a gorgeous weekend you amazing dolls who continue to inspire me. xoxo

I may have pulled a couple of double shifts at Denny's to put myself through college when Daddy died, this post reached out and grabbed my heart Taj, and have I ever told you about ruining the only pair of designer shoes I ever owned on the freeway trying to keep a stray dog from getting run over, on the way to a huge job interview. I explained why my shoes were taped together, and I got the job! Paid for lots of designer things with that job! Karma it comes back to you.

Excellent post! I like to think glamor is a quality, but can also be all things fashionable. For those who can't afford the top designer things, I think glamorous can still come from within. Have a lovely weekend, Taj!

looove christy turlington. i wish i looked just like her! lol and i am a sucker for all things fur & retro.
i think a lot of being glamorous is an attitude, a really natural self-confidence, like you said.
i mean magnificent clothing helps too!
classic pieces.
being glamorous isnt a trend :)

Fabulous words... I agree with your thoughts. Though in photography, whenever we do glamour photography, we make it a point to have the subject well-dressed with the proper make-up and the right amount of real jewelry... no faux if possible.

Have a great weekend! xoxo

Love it! Agree with you ... Glamour is in details ... It's in attitude ... Not brand or class dependent! :) Liked this post a lot! Have a nice weekend!

Oh Taj... this is a beautiful post...and such a beautiful collection of photos to illustrate your point...

Pretty much everyone here agrees that glamour is an innate trait. All that glitters is not glamour...

Glamour is in the aura and the magnetism a person exudes. Regardless of what the person is wearing.
Nowadays we associate this word with wealth but...glamour is originally a word used in sorcery and magic. The original meaning of glamour is "charm, fascination".

And no amount of money can buy that.

Such a beautiful post...xo

I don't know why but to me nothing in our modern world can replicate the glamour of the hollywood leading ladies of the 40's and 50's. they just had it. Can't tell you why, but it was not contrived. Or maybe it was but that it hadn't been done like that before? i just love the first two pics. but also loved that you put Mother Teresa in there.

I agree with you. Confidence is an incredible quality.
I think virtue and grace also makes a woman beautiful. You can meet the most beautiful person and if they have only ugly things to say, they no longer seem beautiful:)

Style can only add to a woman's beauty:)
Great pics!!

This is such an awesome post. To define glamour in these varied terms... you have done a wonderful job. Glamour cannot and should not be confined to strait-jacketed perceptions of expensive brands and sultry allure. It's a lot more than that. Thank you so much for sharing this.
