Thrift Shopping -Keeping It Glam

I did some major thrift shopping and wanted to share with you some of my gems!
What I really love about going to thrift stores is the opportunity to find very unique pieces.
I've put together a little list of my helpful requirements for vintage pieces that you might find handy.

*First and foremost, when thrift shopping keep in mind that if you don't pick it up when you see it, someone
else will. Even if you are just thinking about it, put it in your cart.
I do a maybe pile and a must have pile and then delete at the end.
*Think of your favorite designers while you shop.  I always look for pieces that remind me of Alexander Wang, Chanel, Betsey Johnson etc. etc.  It's easy to put pieces together this way.  Say I find a fun floral blazer, that reminds me of Betsey's last collection, I will begin to imagine the outfits I will pair it with and if it can be worn several ways. Or I pick up things in the Chanel color palette: Creams, blacks, whites.
*Size-Everything can be altered.  Try things on.  Don't worry if it's too big if you love it, you can take it to a tailor and have it custom fit fairly cheap.
*Quality- This is big for me.  I really only invest in quality fabrics. I seem to find a lot of silks.
Check list: needs to be spotless, no rips, tares, tiny holes, I mean check everywhere! The underarms check, you've got to be meticulous!  Once you've given it the thorough check, smell it.  If it smells like mold. Pass.  Mold smells are hard to get out.  Other than that, you can dry clean it or steam it at home and it will be just like new!
*Try to find classic pieces.  Things you can easily integrate into your wardrobe.  I love to find blazers of all colors and fabrics and silky, gorgeous blouses.
*Go thru every row. It takes time, but once you know your color palette, and pattern/fabric likes and dislikes it goes pretty fast.
*Pick up fun pieces.  You can really experiment with fun colors, patterns and styles.  Whether that's 70's dresses, or the puffy silky blouses of the 80's.  I love to find pieces that have personality.
*Accessories- My fav!! Shoes should be in great condition.  I wipe mine down inside with dis-infecting towelettes to be safe. I found a pair of Escada pumps last week that I can hardly wait to wear this fall.
Purses can be really fun, I visualize outfits I can wear them with.  The leather shouldn't be too worn or have any stains or smells.
Belts-I find so many great leather belts.  I've got quite a collection of fabulous belts from over the years. Take the time to read the labels on them.  I always find designer belts for really cheap.
*Edit- I pile my cart with everything, an then edit it at the end.  I try to really buy only items that work for my lifestyle and pieces that will last thru the years.  I do indulge in pieces that are a little more trendy, but again, they should have good quality fabric.
Lastly have fun and be creative! I love the idea of making a dress into a skirt or changing the hemline.  You become the designer of a great piece.
*And make sure you get a great deal!! Find out when stores have 50% off sales. It's all part of the thrill!
Happy thrifting!! xoxo -Taj

(I found this gorgeous sequin Kenar dress for $4!)

(I love the pattern and gold buttons on this silk Escada blouse, I'll wear it under a blazer)

(This silk scarf is so on trend, I love animal print!)

( A straw clutch in a perfect burnt orange shade)

( Two gorgeous leather belts I found: I'm really into luxurious rich browns
with gold accents right now)

(These are a fun pair of shoes, I wouldn't take myself too serious in these!
Western meets animal print! I would pair them with a cute pair of jeans and a blazer)

(Another unique belt with gold hardware)

(Worn once! Coach wedges for $12!!)

(A butter soft leather green skirt (Henri Bendel!). I'm collecting them for fall.
I've got, grey, black and purple so far!)

(This gorgeous leather Chanel-ish purse is one of my fav finds recenlty!)

Hope you are inspired to go thrifting!!
